Jean-Pierre Kedi Takes Command As New GM Of ARSEL
Activities of Cameroon’s Electricity Sector Regulatory Agency better known through its French acronym as ARSEL are since last 24 June 2010 being piloted by an Industrial Technical Engineer, Jean-Pierre Kedi. Appointed by President Paul Biya as second General Manager of ARSEL last June 23, the close to 50-year old who has been an administrator for almost 27 years, takes over from Pierre Ndouga Hell who ruled the Agency for a decade as its pioneer General Manager. Ndounga Hell’s sacking came up barely a few weeks after government blocked AES-SONEL from introducing a five percent tariff increase in June this year. Before his appointment, Jean-Pierre Kedi was Secretary General in the Ministry of Mines, Industries and Technological Development, a post he held since January 2, 2008.

CDC Thanks God For New Giant Oil Mill
The Cameroon Development Corporation, CDC, last Saturday, June 19 organized an ecumenical thanksgiving service to commemorate the safe completion of the giant multi-billion francs CFA Illoani oil mill project. The service, which held at the site of the very imposing structure in Illoani, Boa Plain in Bamusso Sub-Division, Ndian Division, was heavily attended by administrative and municipal authorities of the area, traditional authorities, special guests from Limbe, Douala etc, CDC management and workers of the mill, close to 20 clergymen, choral groups and the local population.In an opening prayer, Rev. Father Vincent Mesue, the Catholic Priest of Mbonge parish, thanked God for blessing Cameroon with abundant resources and also for giving CDC great minds, especially the General Manager, Mr. Henry Njalla Quan, who through th Almighty’s wisdom have been able to transform ideas into reality.

Two New Mobile Telephone Companies On The Way
The Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Jean Pierre Biyiti bi Essam says mobile telephone users in Cameroon will soon witness a considerable drop in call costs following the arrival into the already competitive local market, “of one or two more mobile telephone companies”. He made the revelation without disclosing the names of the new companies last June 1 at the Yaoundé Nkomkana Center for the Insertion of Youths in Difficulties as Cameroon observed postponed worldwide celebration of the 145th edition of World Day for Telecommunications and Information Society under the theme “Better Cities, Better Life with ICTs.” The P and T minister saluted the presence of the Minister of Town Planning and Housing, Clobert TCHATAT whose Centre at Nkomkana played host to this year’s celebration punctuated with the focus of this year on ICTs and the cities.

NGO Indicts Metal Company For Pollution
A Douala-based metallurgical company, PROMETAL, that began operations a few months ago, in the city’s industrial zone, has come under heavy attack by a Non-Governmental Organisation, Human Rights Organisation For the Protection of the Citizen and the Environment, ODHPC, for severely polluting the environment.
According to the NGO, the company projects in the atmosphere a grey blue-like smoke that comes from its factory in violation of the 1996 law on the management of the environment. Prince Nasser Kemajou is categorical that "One cannot continue to let Prometal go ahead with its activities when security measures to protection the population and the environment have not been taken". The President General of ODHPC was speaking last Wednesday, June 2, within the premises of the company at the Bassa Industrial Zone during a field trip to witness the reality of pollution in that part of Douala.

Cameroon’s par- public telecommunication company better known as Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL, has launched a vast internet publicity campaign which aims at enabling several citizens subscribe to its internet services during the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The two-month internet campaign launched by the General Manager of CAMTEL, David Nkoto Emane runs from May15 to July 15 and offers clients with a key of unlimited internet access at FCFA 20,000 per month. Talking to The SUN in an exclusive interview last June 3 in Yaounde, CAMTEL’s Communication Officer, Eric Pela said “Our clients beside having the mobile internet modem free of charge upon payment of the promotion amount, will also automatically be registered for a raffle draw game with the possibility of winning free tickets to South Africa during this period.
